Traditional Hale Project
Civic Literacy and Engagement 21st Skill
Every Friday we have this class called "Community Engagement" were we go into groups and do something helpful for the school or our community. My group probably has the biggest project at this time. We are building a traditional hale for our school. We are doings this in hopes that we can have an outdoor learning area for the students. We have been planning and working on it sense the start of the school year, but we still have a lot to do.
For this project we really have to work hard as a group, well together, so that we can create something for our community. Thats why I think this project represents the "Civic Literacy and Engagement" 21st century skill. This hale will have a positive impact for the future of our school. By helping the school we really are helping the community, because the school is for the community!
I personally like this project because I get to learn important skills. For example, how to coordinate and work together as a group. I also think its cool that we get to learn new things, like how to lash. It's also good that we are making something traditional. The hale is something that connects our school to Hawaii. Throughout the project I have seen everyone give a little more effort each week, and I think we are really working together to make the community better.
