In Democracy we had a big project to create and design a country and it's government. This work example represents the Civic Literacy and Engagement 21st Century Skill. For this assignment we had to create a country, it's government, a country map, a symbolic flag, and unique or typical jobs there. Through this project I have learned more about government and how a country works.
My partner and I created a island in the Northern Pacific Ocean Called Beluvia. A radioactive meteor hit it a long time ago causing mutations in nearby wild life. All species were killed off because of how radioactive it was except for one species, the Beluga. Beluga Whales mutated and new Beluga species started popping up. They gained the ability to go on land and even fly. Later, Vikings stumbled upon the island and they decided to settle there. Every Class we had to do something different for the project, but the storyline was the fun and creative part. The teacher tied in lesson with every new part of the project, so we were learning about our government too. For example, we had to create rights for our country's people. Before we started we learned about that Bill of Rights. We were able to decide if those were good rights or not, and if people need any new rights. This gets us thinking about what rights we should have and h0w a country should be run. This gets us engaged in our government and community. That is why I think this work example represents Civic Literacy and Engagement.
